GIRARDVILLE - The Girardville PRIDE Inc. revitalization
group has taken another step toward not-for-profit status with final
approval of two important organization documents.
Vice President Heath Ressler conducted the meeting
Monday in the absence of President James Kilker, who submitted a written
president's report. Kilker was unable to attend due to illness.
Most of Kilker's report involved directions to make
the necessary approvals of the bylaws and conflict-of-interest policy
at the meeting so the completed application for the 501(c)3 status
and other documentation could be submitted to the Internal Revenue
Service.
Kilker's report also noted the need to address the
requirements for board and general membership. The matter was referred
to PRIDE's organization committee.
The group also reorganized Monday, and Ressler called
for additional nominations for the four posts, and hearing none, called
for election of the nominees chosen at the January meeting. At that
time, Kilker expressed his desire not to seek another term as president,
citing his work schedule. However, he also noted his intention to
remain active on the board.
Joseph Quinn, a borough councilman, was nominated in
January for the president's seat, and he was unanimously elected Monday.
Ressler was re-elected vice president, Carol Reilly was retained as
secretary and Terri Paige as treasurer. The officers will be installed
at the March 27 meeting.
The board also discussed participation in the St. Patrick's
Day Parade, which has become a major annual Girardville event. This
year's parade will be held March 18, and PRIDE will participate with
a car and float.
PRIDE board member and organization committee co-chairwoman
Kathy Centiole, who also represents Upper Schuylkill Downtowns, the
umbrella revitalization organization for six northern Schuylkill boroughs,
provided an overview of the upcoming regional homecoming tourism event,
which will be held Labor Day weekend, with the central event being
the ABA/Mummers Parade in Ashland Sept. 2.
The affiliate revitalization organizations in Frackville,
Girardville, Mahanoy City, Ringtown and Shenandoah will hold community
events during that weekend.
