ASHLAND The second Business After Hours
Mixer that will be sponsored by Ashland Downtown Inc. was the
main topic of Mondays ADI board meeting.
As with the first mixer in February 2006, this invitation-only
event Thursday at Community Banks will provide a chance for local
businesses owners and borough officials to receive an update on ADIs
progress in the downtown revitalization process, including its inclusion
in the Pennsylvania Main Street Program.
This will be a very nice affair, said Community
Banks office manager and ADI Treasurer Barbara Mullins
The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the
bank lobby. Mullins said a keyboardist will provide entertainment.
The event will also introduce Greg Fisher as the new
Main Street manager, whose first day on the job was Monday.
ADI President Louis Rader will also speak about ADIs
activities and report on the capital campaign.
In other business, ADI is planning to send letters
to businesses, organizations and individuals who have contributed
to the capital campaign, thanking them for their support and reminding
them that the second-year pledge payment is due. Letters will also
be sent to invite others to participate in the campaign and other
ADI activities.
Several businesses have expressed interest in the facade
improvement program. Rader said he had a meeting with The News-Item
Publisher Greg Zyla to discuss facade work on the newspapers
bureau office at 533 Centre St.
The board also discussed its preliminary plans for
the Upper Schuylkill Homecoming events in Ashland, including the wine
and food pairing, the annual AppleFest event in October and the Old
Fashioned Christmas in December.
