Revitalization group's future secure

It's nice to know your foreseeable
future is secure.
For Upper Schuylkill Downtowns, the
umbrella revitalization group for six northern Schuylkill Boroughs,
that's what a $1 million grant has done.
The funding, through the state Department of Community
and Economic Development, will keep Upper Schuylkill operating through
2011, well past the current Main Street Program funding cycle, which
ends next year for the agency.
The money will also be used to pursue the objectives
identified by the boroughs involved: Ashland, Frackville, Girardville,
Mahanoy City, Ringtown and Shenandoah.
State Sen. James J. Rhoades, R-29, who made the grant
announcement last week, told Upper Schuylkill participants the funding
"is to sustain you. You're not going away next year."
In its secure circumstance, Upper Schuylkill can continue
"our hard work as a region," Patrice K. Rader, the agency's
executive director, said.
By combining resources and working cooperatively, the
Upper Schuylkill participants can bring about positive changes in
line with the group's motto: "Six Great Towns, One Regional City."
