RINGTOWN - The Main Street revitalization effort is
shaping up.
Copies of the bylaws for Main Street Ringtown were handed
out at Wednesday night's meeting and all members were asked to look
them over and e-mail comments to President Julian Milewski, who is
hoping to adopt the bylaws at next month's meeting. This is one of
the steps necessary to apply for acceptance into the Main Street Program.
Milewski announced that an additional $200 in seed money
has been received from Frackville, making a total of $1000 in start-up
funds. The other five communities that are part of Upper Schuylkill
Downtowns each donated $200 to get Main Street Ringtown on their feet.
Milewski is hoping that the group can decide on both
short- and long-term goals and objectives by next month to keep the
revitalization efforts on track.
"I know one thing I would like to accomplish is
to see Ringtown as a walkable community," Milewski said. "Some
of our sidewalks are in bad shape and I would like to see improved
sidewalks from one end of Main Street to the other."
Upper Schuylkill Downtowns Executive Director, Patrice
Rader told the group that the facade program would be unveiled at
the Upper Schuylkill steering committee meeting next week. Funding
is expected to be available for each community for facade improvements
to buildings in each designated Main Street target area. More information
will be available after next week's meeting.
