SHENANDOAH - Shenandoah's downtown revitalization efforts
are getting a boost.
State Rep. Neal P. Goodman, D-123, presented Downtown
Shenandoah Inc. with a $10,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department
of Community and Economic Development on Friday.
The money will be used to meet the group's matching
funds goals.
According to DSI President Valerie Macdonald, the group
will receive $90,000 for their efforts from the Main Street Program,
matching the group's $90,000 raised through grants, fundraisers and
donations.
Another $120,000 will come from a Design Challenge Grant
program.
Upper Schuylkill Downtowns, the parent group of the
revitalization efforts, recently received a financial shot in the
arm by being awarded a $1 million grant that will keep the revitalization
group operating through 2011.
Also, DSI was notified last week that they have qualified
for Year 2 and 3 funding from DCED, but will have to pass an inspection
by the director of Pennsylvania Downtown Center, William Fontana.
