SHENANDOAH Downtown Shenandoah Inc. has a new
downtown manager.
DSI President Valerie E. Macdonald announced at Tuesdays
meeting that Mary Luscavage was hired to fill the position.
Luscavage, a Shenandoah resident, is currently employed
by the Area Revitalization Development Corp., a nonprofit group formed
in 2002 to promote education and economic development in Schuylkill
County. She is also the DSI Promotions Committee chairwoman.
It was a long process, but I am very glad we selected
the best candidate, Macdonald said. And very appropriately,
a Shenandoah resident.
The position was reopened and readvertised in May so
additional candidates could apply and be considered after the original
applicants who were considered in March were not accepted. The Executive
Committee chose Luscavage after the Selection Committee narrowed the
field to three candidates last month.
Grant money from year two of the Main Street Program
funds will be used to pay Luscavages salary. The amount of the
salary was not announced.
Luscavage will begin her duties Sept. 3.
Macdonald said that starting on that date, the DSI office
in the Damato Legion Post building will be open from 8:30 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. daily.
In other business, the Promotions Committee announced
DSI will sponsor a concert by Jim Witter, The Piano Man,
featuring the music of Billy Joel and Elton John at 8 p.m. Oct. 21
in the Shenandoah Valley High School auditorium.
Tickets can be purchased from any DSI member or by calling
the DSI office at 462-2060.
Macdonald told the group that members are needed.
We need to build this organization with workers
from the business community, she said.
She encouraged the block managers to get out and talk
to the business people to get them interested in the downtown revitalization
and joining the organization.
Member Anne Taylor said the recent photo contest was
a success with more than 80 photos submitted. All photos were scanned
and will be used to decorate the DSI office.
