The Ashland Area Historic Preservation Society was established on February 24, 1999. The Society encompasses the history of: Ashland, Locust Dale, Lavelle, Gordon, Fountain Springs, Girardville, and surrounding areas. We are locals who have lived here all of our lives, out of staters who have roots in the area, and newcomers who want to learn more about the place we now call home. The Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society was organized in October 1998 by a group of local individuals with and interest in perserving the unique history of Shenandoah; the heritage of its people, its coal mining history, the architectural design of downtown buildings, and other aspects of what makes this community a unique, valuable and thriving part of Schuylkill County. We invite you to visit us and learn more about the rich history of Shenandoah and its surrounding patches including Brownsville, Lost Creek, Lost Creek #2, Raven Run, Shenandoah Heights, Turkey Run, and Upper and Lower William Penn.
